How to Identify that you have Authentic Kinesio Tape
The packaging will always have the Kinesio logo and “The Original Kinesio Tape”. All authentic Kinesio Tapes have their own specific backing paper that always says KINESIO.

  1. How is Kinesio® Tape applied?
In simple terms, the tape is gently placed over the affected area while the muscles are in a stretched position. Then, the tape is applied along the length of the muscle, with minimal to no stretch on the tape itself. When seeking support, the tape is applied from the muscle’s origin to its insertion, while for rehabilitation, it is applied from insertion to origin.
  2. What are some suggestions for optimum kinesio taping results?
Before applying the tape, make sure the skin is clean and free of oil, sweat, or lotion. After application, gently rub down the tape to activate the heat-sensitive glue. To prevent skin irritation, avoid excessive stretching of the tape during application. For optimal adhesion, it’s recommended to apply the tape approximately 1 hour before engaging in any activity or showering. While skin irritation is very uncommon, it’s essential to be cautious with patients who have hypersensitive skin.
  3. Is there a difference between the different tape colours?
All the colors of the tape have no physical or chemical distinctions; they are identical in composition. The colors were specifically chosen to align with color therapy principles. Beige was designed for minimal visibility, while black was introduced due to popular demand. Ultimately, the choice of color comes down to individual preference. Moreover, the colored tapes can serve various purposes, such as field advertising during athletic events, initiating conversations, and facilitating instant product recognition.
  4. Does Kinesio Tape contain latex?
    Kinesio® Tape is latex free.
  5. Which Kinesio brand tape is water resistant?
All Kinesio® tapes are designed to be water-resistant, ensuring durability during various activities. For optimal adhesion, it is recommended to apply the tape before engaging in any activity, and the skin should be clean, dry, and free from lotions or oils. After applying the tape to the skin, gently rubbing it will activate the adhesive and enhance its adherence, providing a secure and reliable hold.
  6. Isn't all tape Kinesio tape?
No! Not all tape is created equal. Kinesio® is a name brand, just like Band-Aid®, Dr. Scholl’s®, Nike® and Under Armour®.
  7. What does “FP” in Gold FP stand for & why is it important?
Fingerprints play a crucial role in Dr. Kase’s initial concept of leaving his hand on the patient. The inclusion of the ‘dot’ in the fingerprint is particularly significant as it contributes to a softer and more sensitive touch, while also enhancing the grip during treatment. This unique feature helps improve the effectiveness and comfort of the application, making it a key element in Dr. Kase’s approach.
  8. Which tape is recommended for day to day patient taping?
Kinesio Tex Gold FP is highly recommended for medical and rehabilitation settings. Its specialized design and adhesive properties make it an excellent choice for therapeutic purposes. For sporting applications, Kinesio Tex Classic may offer some slight advantages over Gold FP. However, Gold FP still performs well in such scenarios and is often suitable for athletes and sports-related injuries.
  9. What is the difference between Kinesio Tex Goldᵀᴹ FP and Kinesio® Classic?
Kinesio Tape Tex Goldᵀᴹ FP features an improved adhesive technology (FingerPrintᵀᴹ) compared to Kinesio Tape Classic, making it a preferred choice in medical and rehab settings where extended wear time and enhanced adhesion are crucial. Both tapes are effective, but the choice between them may depend on the specific needs and requirements of the application.
